Global Conversations

SCI Global Conversations is a program series designed to connect Sister City Communities with experts from around the world. Topics prominent to our international networks are covered, acting as a resource for members to come together and learn about topics important to them, and to also allow the public to see what’s going on in our SCI networks.

Have a lock at our Past Conversations and watch the recordings whenever you want.

Annual Conference

In 2020, Sister Cities International held its first Virtual Annual Conference, fully embracing our virtual platforms as the world was affected by COVID 19. As the 2020 Annual Conference’s theme was “Reimagining Citizen Diplomacy: New Connections in a Virtual World”, the event was brought to life through the involvement that everyone has had in the new territory of the online conference. There were over 2,900 unique participants throughout the two-day conference, resulting in amazing questions and comments from viewers to our panelists and speakers.

Annual Awards

The Annual Awards Program highlights sister city program achievements and brings international recognition to each community’s contributions to the citizen diplomacy movement. Sister Cities International established the Annual Awards Program in 1962 to recognize exceptional sister city programs. Current dues-paying members of Sister Cities International with at least one formally recognized sister city partnership are eligible to apply for awards. The awards will recognize achievements by sister city programs.

Presidential Inaugural Event

The 2021 SCI Presidential Inaugural Event was a huge success as we transformed what normally would be a black-tie gala to an amazing event accessible through an online platform. Subsequently, this program offered access to tens of thousands of viewers around the world. The Inaugural Event was estimated to have over 20,000 attendees. SCI was joined by our prestigious Honorary Host Committee comprised of Mayors, Members of Congress, Diplomats, and more.

Youth Leadership Summit

SCI’s first virtual Youth Leadership Summit was a success, as 34 student leaders came together to create 4 distinct, impactful projects. Focusing on the theme, “Solving Today’s Problems to build a Better Tomorrow”, students worked together to become future leaders and use their exposure in global challenges to create solutions that would be able to be implemented in their own communities. As SCI empowers young people to think globally, spurring a new generation of citizen diplomats and volunteers who become instrumental in promoting peace, mutual respect, and prosperity, these high-school aged youths around the world developed decision making and leadership skills.

Young Artists and Authors Showcase

For decades, Sister Cities International has leveraged the power that art has to transform societies and transcend cultural boundaries through the Young Artists and Authors Showcase, or YAAS. The Showcase has given youth worldwide the opportunity to express their vision for a more unified, peaceful world through original art and literature.
